Biennials

Charles Dowding explains which of your favourite vegetables to grow are biennial. He talks about the importance of checking out seed packets & making notes to find out when's best to sow & when to expect a crop. The time of year & moon cycles all play a part in the growing experience.

Have you been growing some brassicas this year? These may not produce food until they establish themselves in the first year of growing. Some parts of the plant will be ready to eat earlier, and you can harvest as it grows. Later in the season, you can expect some tasty crops from varieties such as Purple Sprouting Broccoli & Kale.

Plants such as Leeks & Garlic, will grow slowly & steadily through the summer and need winter weather to be ready to enjoy in spring. Did you know the edible flowers & Scapes are a perfect way to enjoy all the goodness from the whole plant before you harvest?!

Charles gives his expert tips on when to sow, to get the best out of the plant & minimize pests. The type of seed will also affect your crops. You can try out F1 Hybrids or heirlooms.
