Ed's Herb Patch

Herbs are a chefs best friend, this is a tour of the herbs growing on Ed's patch!

Sage - this one isn't going to grow too big, so he chose to grow some salads around it to maximise on space.

Rosemary - great roasted with veggies! Grows bushy and vertical so won’t be fighting for space with the sage so they're great as companion herbs.

Mint - This one is prolific, keep it in a pot because they are very hard to then get rid of otherwise! Great for a tea :)

Oregano - Similar to your mints, keep them in a pot or they'll spread and grow all over.

Thyme - This is delicious fresh and dried too. At the end of the season chop it all and dry it out so you have delicious herbs throughout the year.

Dill - This herb has a gorgeous umbellifer flower on it - similar to bronze fennel! Using fresh dill in pickles is so tasty but they are also great in bouquets and the seeds are great for cooking. Dill grows a bit taller than the other herbs which is lovely and really great for pollinators!

Thai Basil - This is a fantastic herb for putting in a pesto or into soups and curries. As you can see in the video it’s now going to seed, this is obvious from the flowers. Remove these to keep it growing leaves and keep it growing nice and bushy.

Purple basil - similar to the above, better in more Italian based dishes rather than the thai basil.

Chive - This herb is super easy to grow and flowers multiple times a year (they are delicious too!) You can collect for seed but also use the greens, which makes it a very versatile ingredient!
