Aphids

Have you come across some Aphids on your patch? Today Kate tells us about what to look out for & how to revive your plants with natural remedies!

Aphids are a small & sticky pest that will suck out all the juicy nutrients and slowly kill your plants! They are something to worry about more when the plant is a little older.

The best way to manage an aphid problem is to vigilantly check your plants as they grow. Check out the stems & undersides of leaves there are many different types of Aphids and you will likely find green Aphids on your Tomatoes and grey ones on your Cabbage later in the year.

To deal with aphids, do not use neem oil or soaps because this can suffocate lots of other invertebrates. The best method is to squish them! Get them off the plant & wash down with water. Ladybirds are our best friend when it comes to Aphids. They are the natural predator, so if you find some in your garden, you can introduce them to the infected plant!

Compost makes all the difference to your plant's health, building up the microbial diversity is really important! Bringing back plant health due to aphid damage can be helped along with seaweed feed or compost tea.

Top Tip: Old and decaying matter will attract pests, so keeping a tidy patch will produce healthier plants!
