Pigeons
Join Kate to find out how to manage damage by a very common patch pest: Pigeons!
Pigeons tend to be more of a nuisance at the start of the season because they love the tender new leaves of your plants, the pressure from pigeons will lessen over the season.
Classic examples of pigeon damage are sharp, beak marks rather than just leaving holes.
Hoops are a great way to protect your new plantings from pigeons and other birds. Ensure that you use netting that has small enough holes that tiny birds won't be able to get through and get trapped. It's also important that the hoops are high enough that your produce has space to grow as tall as it needs!
Top Tip: Scaffold netting is a great alternative to expensive insect mesh!
