Frosts & Fleece

An essential for a grower who wants to look after their crops all year round is fleece. Charles always keeps an eye on the weather and recommends checking out the first frost date in your country or region. Be aware of a microclimate & that closer to the ground it’ll be colder than forecast.

The Forecast for a frost can come as early as October when the shorter days bring chilly and still nights. That’s when you want to be ready with your fleece!

In this video, Charles gives some advice on what sort of fleece to use how to secure it and which plants need it most!

Courgette, winter squash & beans are very susceptible to frost, get your last harvest before the cold sets in. Veggies like bulb fennel, celery & salads can survive frost but they lose quality & might get damaged.

Spinach is really frost hardy & you'll not need to worry about your Celeriac, Beetroots & Carrots in the no-dig soil, but let's find out here how to protect our crops from the cold ensuring a winter full of tasty, organic food.
