Sowing into a Tray

In this lesson, Ed is sowing Lettuce seeds. He will show you how to sow seeds into a grower's popular choice, a tray.

Bring along your seeds, seedling compost, tray, and let's get started!

Using this type of container will mean using a technique called 'pricking out' once the seedlings have established themselves. 

A tray is a great type of container to use when sowing a lot of one type of small seeds, such as salad or herbs. 

Top Tip: Use a little vermiculite to lock in the moisture content of the compost
