Calendula Ointment

Join Four Acre Farm's Kate to check out our favourite, fantastic, flower-power calendula! She dives into; how it grows, the many benefits of the plant & how to cut them if you are making an ointment. Nature provides us with so many remedies and today we'll learn about one of them...

As a hardy, cool, annual flower, calendula self-seeds growing year after year, so you can have a constant supply of medicinal flowers. This homemade ointment will be great for the skin because it's naturally antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial & very gentle for sensitive skin.

The basics for making your oil:

- Harvest the heads

- Dry them out

- Pop them in a clean jar with a carrier oil (like extra virgin olive oil or hemp oil)

Store the jar in a warm sunny spot to infuse & leave for about a month. The oil will become a beautiful golden colour, by which time you can strain out the flowers, jar, date & label it!

TOP TIP: If you choose to use olive or hemp oil, you can then also use this in dressings as well as topically on the skin!
