Did you save your biggest & best bulbs of Garlic from last year? September - November is the time to pop them back in the ground for another garlic harvest next summer!
Although Garlic takes a long time to grow, it won't take up too much room and they're oh so easy to plant out. Bring a dibber and some Garlic (you'll find some in your Roots Tool Shed) and get ready to learn how to grow garlic with Kate.
Prepare the bed and use your dibber to make small holes with 15 cm spacings. Pop one clove of garlic in each, try to use the biggest & fattest clove, for the best Garlic in July. Face the pointed end up, as this is where the new shoot will form.
Rake over the bed and firm down the soil. If it's dry, give the bed a water. Option to mulch the top with compost, woodchip or straw.
Inter-sow your Garlic with a quick harvesting plant like Radish to maximize your growing space or design the bed so that you'll have more room for other crops whilst they grow juicy and strong!
Homegrown Garlic's flavour is unmatched, let it grow and enjoy the harvest's taste and health benefits!
TOP TIP: Roots Allotments will supply you with Garlic bulbs each year. If you choose a different type, be sure it's organic, as some supermarket Garlic will be sprayed with chemicals that stop the shoots from forming!
