Beetroot Harvesting & Clearing

Time to clear a beetroot bed to make room for something new or cover crop for Winter? Look how much food you'll be taking home today! Be ready to pickle or store these earthy beauties. 

If the second crop of your multi-sown beets are ready harvest, or you had single ones growing lovely and large, you'll of course be harvesting & clearing the same time. This is similar for many root veg, so, let's see how Charles Dowding harvests his Beetroots, the No Dig way!

At this time of the year, most of the leafy greens will be heading o the compost, bring along a bucket to collect as you go. 

Gently twist & pull up he beetroots, twist or cut off the leaves and discard. Simply use your boots to scuff the earth back over evenly and step on the finished row to press the soil back down, This is now a lovely habitat for the worms and rich soil for your next plantings.

Food for Thought: Try baking beetroots in chocolate brownies. They have such a deep flavour and gooey texture, yum!
