Sunflower Clearing
These sunflowers have been blooming all summer long providing a beacon for pollinators and extra happy vibes to the patch. Now the Autumnal winds and colder weather is here, they are starting to fall over.
It's best to clear them away now, preparing the No Dig bed for winter. When clearing, cut the chunky stems into small pieces for composting. Cut all the way down, as close to the ground as possible. Leave those lovely roots in the soil, undisturbed for maximum soil health.
Maybe you're harvesting them to take home. Double-check they are nice and dry before storing them.
Perhaps you like to offer the plant back to nature, leaving the welcome seed heads for birds.
