Clearing Broad Beans
Broad Beans are typically the first harvest of the season, and will likely be the first plant that needs clearing to make way for your new plants. Charles Dowding has finished harvesting the pods for food or seed and will show you how to clear them away with the No Dig Method.
They're a plant that uses 'nitrogen nodules' to feed itself. The little pink balls will also feed the soil, ready for your succession plantings. For this reason, we leave the root system in the ground.
The best way is to cut the stem at ground level to not disturb the soil. He shows an example of what happens if you pull up the plant!
