Brussels Sprouts Harvesting

You either love 'em or loathe 'em! But we hope growing your own organic delicious Brussels Sprouts could convince even the fussiest guest at the table to give them a try!

We're with Charles Dowding (& Minty the cat!) today, to see how he likes to harvest this Bridgette Variety. He chats bout the conditions they've been grown in, when they're ready & what to do when you'd like to take some home.

In this No Dig bed at Homeacres & you'll see the Brussels Sprouts like lots of room and the wet weather has helped them grow nice and big! It's a good idea to stake the plants, as the heads get taller and heavier, the wind might blow them over.

Deleaf as they grow, taking the lower yellowing leaves to the compost heap.

Sprouts are produced near the head of the plant, so harvest from the bottom up! They will easily pop or snap off in your hands. When the plants are maturing you'll be able to pick a handful every week!

The colder Sprouts get the sweeter they get, so you can keep enjoying them even after Christmas!
