Salad Rocket Harvesting

ou can grow two types of Rocket for different seasons: Wild Rocket and Salad Rocket. Charles Dowding recommends planting both interseasonally to enjoy it all year round. In this lesson, he is harvesting Salad Rocket.

Typically Wild Rocket is a Spring & Summer leaf, once it goes to flower it's cleared and you can be ready to plant Salad Rocket and replace it in September. An easy plant to grow for later in the season, although it's not particularly frost-hardy, your Salad Rocket might be able to be harvested into February!

To add peppery flavour to your mixed salad, harvest mature parts of the plant. Instead of cutting, mindfully pick the larger leaves. They taste even better, and allow the plant to regenerate and grow on the smaller stems.

Pick more lightly from November onwards as the plant won't have long and warm enough days to regrow.

Grow your own organic Rocket to experience the real flavor of this tasty salad leaf!
