The biggest challenge you might encounter when growing Chinese Cabbage is pests! The slugs have visited Homeacres too! Don't worry, Charles shows that by removing the outer damaged leaves, you'll still find plenty of delicious cabbage hearts underneath.
Charles recommends sowing Chinese Cabbage the first week of August. You can harvest in October and November, It's a nice green veg to leave in a little longer than the rest as they don't mind the frost!
Another thing to consider is using. some mesh or hoops and net to protect your plans from caterpillars, who find cabbage as delicious as we do!
Bring along a bucket, to add the leaves to the compost heap. Cut the stalk close to the soil surface and leave the roots in the ground for the microbial network. Food for the soil is food for your plants!
Then slice an inch from the bottom this makes it easy to remove any debris and find that squeaky and nutritious Cabbage heart. You can store them in the fridge or somewhere cool for 2 months! The power of No Dig organic soil, makes your harvests last longer.
