Squash Harvesting

Let's meet Charles Dowding at Homeacres for the first Squash Harvest of the year... In this video, he'll talk about all things Squash! Which varieties have you grown this year?

Courgettes are Summer Squash, are harvested and enjoyed young & tender. When it comes to storing your other squash types for the Autumn and Winter there is a process to follow to ensure longevity in storage & they'll keep their sweet orange flesh!

You'll inspect the skin for ripeness, dryness & hardness, give your squash a knock? What does it sound like? Notice the leaf development. If it's ready, cut the stalk with a few inches, as this part will dry as it stores.

Charles shares a few of his favourite types of Squash and why it takes quite a long time for the plant to mature. He gives expert advice on the best place to store & cure. Watch on to find out more!.
